Chetan Bhagat is a popular youth icon and author of India. He is the author of bestsellers like One Night at the call center, Five Point Someone, 2 States, etc. There are some books that are called leisure fiction. These are the books that we can read in our spare time but, mostly, can’t find any ideas other than pure entertainment or maybe hollow entertainment as well. However, there are certain novels which can provide multiple ideas despite being a leisure fiction. I am talking about ‘Half Girlfriend’ by Chetan Bhagat. There is a Bollywood movie adaptation also in this novel. In the movie shraddha kapoor and arjun kapoor was the main lead.
The story is pretty simple and the language used is pretty simple hence making it a very beginner-friendly book. So budding readers who want to read a pretty simple novel and also want to know Chetan Bhagat's writing style should get their hands on it. The author introduced us to the two characters i.e. Madhav - a boy from Bihar and Riya - a rich Delhi girl. Madhav's character was played by Arjun Kapoor and Riya's character was played by Shraddha Kapoor.
The story starts when Madhav seeks to take admission to India's most prestigious college but there he has to face many hurdles due to his bad English. After getting admission he falls in love with a rich girl. But the girl tells him that I am not his girlfriend but you can call me ‘Half Girlfriend’. The girl gets married to a rich person and the boy gets to continue his social work. They meet again and the girl tells him I have ended my marriage. One day she ran away and nobody knows where she has gone? Madhav was searching for her and one day he found her in the USA and they start staying together. The novel ends there. The author has lightened societal issues like not being able to speak proper English, the difference between rich and poor, domestic violence, and many more.
It may be easy for some readers to call it usual fiction but it depicts some harsh realities of modern society. It provides us with a view from the outside about the condition of modern society. I find the book entertaining as well as meaningful. However, I don’t endorse all the novels by Chetan Bhagat. For example, his novels like An Indian Girl are purely a waste of time!
Thank You For Staying Up Till The Last.
Bye And Take Care.
